Graduate Fellowships

 

Idaho NASA EPSCoR Graduate Fellowship


** Open to all applicants attending Boise State University, Idaho State University or the University of Idaho.


The fellowship is available to full-time graduate students in science, math, engineering, technology, or science/math education.  Proposed research MUST DIRECTLY ALIGN with at least one of NASA’s Mission Directorates or the NASA Office of the Chief Technologist (see bottom of the page) in order to be eligible for consideration.  Other requirements include:

  • U.S. Citizenship or permanent residency;
  • Collaboration with a faculty member or research group conducting NASA related research;
  • An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher; or if the applicant has completed graduate classes, GPA of 3.5 or higher in the graduate program.

 
Awards are $17,500 for the academic year.  $2,500 of the $17,500 is to be used for travel to a NASA center.  The fellowships are granted for a maximum of one academic year.

Individuals accepting this award may not concurrently receive other Federal fellowships or traineeships.  The exception to this policy is Section 178(a) of Title 38, U.S. Code, which allows a student to receive concurrent educational benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

ISGC Graduate Fellowships


Students pursing a master’s or doctoral degree at Boise State University, Idaho State University or the University of Idaho may be eligible to apply for the ISGC Graduate Fellowships.  Other requirements include:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Registered full-time in a graduate level program;
  • Study in a NASA-focused research area;
  • An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher, or if the applicant has completed classes, GPA must be 3.5 or higher in the graduate program.

Awards are $15,000 per academic year.  The fellowships are renewable annually upon the completion of program requirements and are granted for a maximum of two academic years.

Program Goals:

  • To recruit, retain, and support students in Math, Science, Engineering, Technology, Math and Science or Math Education.
  • To encourage women and underrepresented individuals to enter STEM fields.
  • To increase awareness of NASA activities in Idaho.
  • To link students and industry with research activities in a way that will help retain qualified young scientists and engineers in Idaho.

NASA ISGC Research Fellowship

Idaho RLEP Fellowship

**Open to applicants attending the University of Idaho only

The NASA ISGC Robotic Lunar Exploration Program (RLEP) fellowship is available to graduate students attending the University of Idaho (UI) in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and closely related fields.  Students selected will work together to facilitate the Idaho RLEP program at UI.

Graduate students selected must commit to serving a 10-week summer internship at the NASA Ames Research Center, and to work with the current UI RLEP fellow to complete the following tasks to facilitate the Idaho RLEP program:

  • Act as the primary program, schedule, and technical contact between the UI and Intelligent Robotics Program (IRG) engineers and researchers at NASA Ames;
  • Advise, mentor and coordinate activities of UI RLEP team;
  • Serve as a liaison between NASA Ames and UI;
  • Oversee all program logistics, which include, but are not limited to, establishing project goals, technical specifications, milestones and schedules; arranging teleconferences, videoconferences, and meetings; and keeping ISGC management informed of program progress on a regular basis;
  • Develop a test plan and schedule for hardware testing in Idaho and field-testing at NASA Ames as appropriate.

Idaho Microgravity University Fellowship

**Open to applicants attending Boise State University only

The ISGC WILL NOT be accepting IMU Fellowship applications for the 2013-2014 academic year.

The NASA ISGC Idaho Microgravity University (IMU) Fellowship is available to Boise State University (BSU) graduate students in electrical, material science, mechanical, civil, and computer science engineering or closely related fields. Graduate students selected will work together to facilitate the IMU program at BSU and across the state, as appropriate.

Graduates students selected must commit to assisting with the Microgravity University course during the academic year, and working closely with Microgravity University faculty and instructors during the course of the year to complete the following tasks associated with IMU. 

  • Act as the primary program, schedule, and technical contact between the Microgravity University and faculty/staff instructors;
  • Advise, mentor and coordinate activities of all Microgravity University teams;
  • Serve as a liaison between the Johnson Space Center and the Microgravity University teams;
  • Oversee program logistics, which include, but are not limited to: establishing project goals, technical specifications, milestones and schedules; arranging teleconferences, videoconferences, and meetings; and keeping ISGC management informed of program progress on a regular basis;
  • Oversee the undergraduate teams development of a test plan and schedule for Microgravity University hardware and software testing in Idaho and field-testing at Johnson Space Center, as appropriate

Idaho RISE Fellowship

**Open to applicants attending the University of Idaho only

The ISGC WILL NOT be accepting RISE Fellowship applications for the 2013-2014 academic year.

The NASA ISGC Research Involving Student Engineers and Educators (RISE) Fellowship is available to a graduate students in engineering, physics, chemistry, life sciences, and closely related fields. The RISE Fellow will work with teams of students to facilitate the Idaho RISE program at the University of Idaho.  The Idaho RISE Fellow will:

  • Act as Institution Project Manager for Idaho RISE;
  • Oversee all program logistics including, but not limited establishing project goals, technical specifications, milestones and schedules; arranging meetings, and keeping ISGC management informed of program progress on a regular basis;
  • Oversee and track expenses for the UI RISE program;
  • Play a significant role in the planning, organization, scheduling, and convening of the annual statewide Idaho RISE symposium;
  • Be the primary institution point of contact with other RISE programs at universities and high schools throughout the State.
